Second-day hair gets a bad reputation it doesn't deserve. Freshly washed hair is actually harder to pin, it's slippery and has nothing for a pin to grip. My go-to for travel is a low, slightly loose bun. It survives a flight, it survives a car nap against a window, and it looks intentional rather than like you slept on it wrong. The advantage of a hairpin here over an elastic is real, and it matters more on travel days than almost any other time. A pin goes in clean and comes out clean, no pulling, no snagging, which matters when you're doing your hair in an airport bathroom with limited patience.
