Aviva Jansen Perea, founder of Day Rate Beauty, holding a silver Power Pin

About

Made by the stylist who needed it.

I've spent twenty years doing hair on sets and red carpets for Zoe Saldaña, America Ferrera, Catherine Zeta-Jones, and Alyssa Milano. Day Rate Beauty began with the pins I kept wishing were in my kit.

Why “Day Rate”

The number I negotiated every day.

My day rate was the thing I negotiated most in my career. Unequal pay and unequal opportunity are standard in Hollywood, and my industry has a real diversity problem. In 2020, when the calendar cleared and I finally had time to think, I decided to stop undervaluing myself and build something that belonged to me.

The first Power Pins shipped in June 2022. By that November, Wirecutter had put them in a gift guide. In March 2026 one of them held Zoe Saldaña's bun through the Academy Awards.

On set

Worn where it has to hold.

The Oscars, Cannes, the Barbie premiere, the Golden Globes. Every shade in the range has been on a carpet in a stylist's hands before it reached a customer.

Made here

Burbank, California.

Upcycled stainless steel, coated in castor bean nylon. Created for nine true hair shades. Packaged in recyclable materials.

Elevated everyday

Easier on your hair. Lighter on plastic.

A smooth steel pin holds a bun without the tight pull of an elastic or the teeth of a claw clip. It's upcycled stainless steel with a plant-based coating, so there's no plastic clip in your routine.
