The gesture

Three moves, one pin.

01

Gather.

Gather your hair into a ponytail and hold it with one hand. With your other hand, start twisting the hair and coil it around the base of the pony.

02

Twist and tuck.

Keep twisting and coiling until you reach the ends of your hair, then tuck the ends into the bun. Insert the pin straight into the bun, perpendicular to your head. Before it reaches your scalp, flip the pin horizontally in one direction to scoop the ends, then flip it back the opposite way.

03

Wiggle.

Wiggle the pin through the bun until it feels secure. The tighter you twist the pony, the stronger the hold. One pin, held all day, with no pulling or damage.

Which pin?

Seven inches or five and a half.

Go with Power if your hair falls past your shoulder blades or is thick enough to snap an elastic. Petite works for everything else, and for anyone who likes a smaller, lower-profile look.
